This hiking course is connecting heritage sites both as starting point and arrival ending point, then offer the participants a very efficient and valuable experience to discover and enjoy Kyoto within a limited time.
Each season provide its unique scenic beauty and highlight in a very distinctive way this historical ancient pilgrimage trail.
A good opportunity to escape the whir of the city center and immerse oneself in the beautiful yet quite unknown natural side of Kyoto.
Kurama-dera Temple
This temple is known for its spirituality and natural beauty, that has fostered 770 years history. Mt. Kurama is also believed to be the birthplace of reiki, a type of “energy therapy” which utilizes spiritual elements. The Tengu, long-nosed or beaked creatures believed to be the guardians of the mountain. Travel from Kyoto city center by local train enable to enjoy a nice view over the colored leaves of each season.
Mt. Kurama (584m)
This is a Sando , sacred path to a shrine/temple that connects the mountain to the beautiful Kibune. Hiking from the bottom of Kurama Temple takes about an hour and a half, but if you want to stop, you can enjoy quietly the scenery .The mountain trail has a mysterious atmosphere with its giant cedars, exposed tree roots, interestingly-shaped wisteria trees and small shrines along the way.
Kibune Shrine
This Shrine worships gods kami associated with water. The area is filled to the brim with wildlife and seasonal flowers blooming along the river, and local restaurants and ryokan (traditional inns) serve meals on platforms built over the cool waters during summer time.
